Prime Minister David Cameron has announced a new scheme relating to processing of UK patent applications, which is part of his vision for transforming the UK economy.  From 28th May any International (PCT) patent application that has received a favourable Written Opinion may be eligible for fast-track processing at the UK Intellectual Property Office. 

Applicants using the fast-track service should receive a UK examination report within two months, significantly quicker than the current timescale.  In cases where no further changes to the application are required by the UK Office early grant of a UK patent can be expected.  It may be advisable for an applicant who is interested in taking advantage of this new procedure to perform certain actions during the international phase of the PCT application in order to improve the chances of a favourable Written Opinion being issued.  Please contact us if you would like more information or advice.
