Richard Halstead BSc, CPA, MITMA
Richard is a partner at Wynne-Jones, Lainé & James. Richard has a wide ranging patent and trade mark practice, and has a great deal of experience in litigation. Richard’s patent practice covers a broad range of disciplines including many aspects of physics, engineering and mechanical inventions.
Richard read Physics at Manchester University before joining the Patent Department of GKN plc in 1980. He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1984 and then joined Pilkington Brothers plc where he was responsible for handling inventions made in the Electro-Optical Division, as well as the Trade Marks of the whole group.
In 1987 he relocated with his family to Hong Kong to take up a position as head of the Patent and Trade Mark Department of Johnson, Stokes and Master, then Asia's largest law firm. During his 8 year stay in Hong Kong he acted for many multi-nationals in a wide variety of areas including litigation, which included the famous Improver vs Remington patent infringement case, licensing and joint-venture work. Following his return to Europe in 1995 he joined Marks & Clerk, becoming a partner in 1998, before joining Wynne-Jones, Lainé & James in 2000.
Richard is married with two grown up children and in his spare time loves gardening.
Richard is a Chartered Patent Attorney, a Registered Trade Mark Attorney, a Community Trade Mark Attorney,a Member of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and retains his links to the Far East by having been voted a lifelong Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Trade Mark Practioners, an Institute he was President of for 7 years
